From the article:

While it would be amazing to have the time and budget for a full-scale laundry room renovation, most of us don???t have either. But that doesn???t mean that we???re totally stuck.

There are a slew of easy, inexpensive changes you can make in your laundry room that can change the look of your space without much time or effort.

Here are our favorite ideas for easy, low-budget laundry room “renovation” projects that are super light on the “renovation” but heavy on the design impact.

Switch Out Lighting
An easy fix in almost any room is to switch out the lighting and upgrade it with something a bit more stylish. We often don???t think of the laundry room when choosing light fixtures. But with new fixtures, or even a chic lamp, you can change the mood, look and vibe of your laundry room in no time at all.

Replace Cabinet Pulls
This fix might seem silly since it won???t really change up the look of your space that much, but it can really make a big difference in your overall look. If you have cabinets in your laundry room, consider switching out all the hardware to something on-trend.

Add a New Sink
If you have a sink in your laundry room, switching it out is a great option if you want to dip your toe in the renovation pool. Your options are limited by your budget; however, there are some lovely sinks that you can find in home improvement stores that will elevate your space. Pair your new sink with a new faucet for an extra design punch.

Paint or Add Wallpaper
If you really want to quickly change the look of your laundry room, paint or wallpaper is the way to go. Since laundry rooms are typically small, it could be a fun spot to experiment with a bold wallpaper pattern. If you don???t want to make the commitment to wallpaper, painting your space a fresh hue might be just the change you need.

From the article:

For parents living in a small home that lacks the needed number of bedrooms for each child to live separately, pairing the kids together becomes the only option. When two girls or two boys share the room decorating, designing and organizing the bedroom is an easy task, as it is inevitable that their interests will be similar. However, when it is a girl and boy sharing a room together the task of making the space functional for both can become a daunting and challenging task. Luckily, parents facing this unenviable situation can sleep easy knowing that with a little bit of creativity and hard work a boy and girl shared bedroom is possible. Continue reading to learn tips and advice for how to make a shared bedroom a reality.

Depending on the ages of the kids, room sharing can become even more difficult. If the kids are closer in age it may be easier to design the room because a gender-neutral theme can be selected. However, when the children???s ages differ greatly more time needs to be spent making sure the room will be comfortable for both kids. Since every child has different tastes, temperaments and preferences it is best to divide the layout of the bedroom into three spaces: two private areas and one shared zone. No matter the age of the child, the bedroom is often a private sanctuary that kids can retreat to for comfort and relaxation. Therefore, if a boy and girl are sharing a space together it is important to give each child their own unique space. For a boy, one side of the room may be decorated in a sports theme while for the girl the opposite side may be a princess theme. With the room divided in two sides, create a common space in the room that can be shared by both the boy and girl.

In a traditional bedroom used by only one person storage space is often not a concern; however, when sharing a room finding enough storage becomes even more important. If there is a closet in the room, divide the space in half so that each child has enough room for their belongings. Rooms without a closet or when the closet is not big enough require more creativity to find storage space. Using under the bed storage bins or built-in-shelves can be an excellent alternative for storing the child???s belongings. Remember that since the room is being shared it is important to divide the storage space equally so that one child does not feel left out.

Aesthetically, it is hard to match the interests and design styles of both boys and girls. Therefore, the shared bedroom does not have to be perfectly in sync and matching; however, each element in the room needs to coexist. One way to achieve a balance in aesthetics is to select a color theme for the room. Pick a color that both the boy and girl will enjoy and try to match each element in the room to the chosen color. Room sharing may not be an ideal situation; however, boys and girls can coexist in the same space. If this situation becomes a reality, follow the above tips and guidelines to make a boy and girl shared bedroom the best possible.

From the article:

Reviewing what you grew last year now will pay off when it???s time to head outside.

Winter gardening advice always includes going through gardening catalogs and deciding what plants you want to grow in the coming year. That???s a great start, but why not take it a step further? Winter is a good time to review what worked and what didn???t in your garden during the previous year, whether it???s the bare spot after the bulbs died back or the vegetables no one ate. Maybe there???s something you loved growing, but it was simply in the wrong spot.

The good thing about this exercise is that you don???t even need to go outside, so any snow still covering your landscape doesn???t matter. In fact, a somewhat barren winter garden will let you see the actual structure of the space and how it flows. It also means that when you do start ordering plants or heading to the nursery, you???ll have a much better idea of what you need and want.

Were your plants growing in the right place? Did any plants struggle? Trying to grow sun-loving plants in shade, or vice versa, leads only to frustration for you and the plant. Match plants to your garden???s microclimates, even if this means moving some to new locations.

Did you love your flowering garden beds? Were there color combinations that worked really well? Did you have blooms throughout the growing season? Maybe this is the year to try some different annuals or add some new perennials.

Did your vegetable garden thrive? If your garden fizzled, what went wrong? Was it location, too little or too much water, or just the luck of the weather?

This year plant more favorites and experiment with some new additions (and don???t feel guilty about jettisoning the turnips that no one would eat).

Are there new places to garden? Maybe your garden???s floor was great but the walls were blank. Can you add vertical interest, whether it???s on a wall, as part of a living screen or with quick-growing vines?

Some home improvement projects that add value to a home include:

1. Remodeling the Kitchen
Most people consider the kitchen to be the heart of the home, and because of this, updates in this room pay off. According to HGTV, you can expect to recoup 60%-120% of your investment on a kitchen remodel, as long as you don???t go overboard. You should never make your kitchen fancier than the rest of the house, or the neighborhood.

A Little Paint Goes a Long Way
When it comes to how much you spend on a kitchen remodel, prices can run the gamut, from $5,000 to $75,000, or more. Get the biggest bang for your buck on a kitchen remodel by looking at color. Fresh paint, in modern colors, can go a long way towards updating the look of your kitchen. Plus, paint is relatively cheap.

Energy-Efficient Appliances
Replace old appliances with energy-efficient models. Energy Star-rated appliances are better for the environment, and they also help you save money, because they use less energy. Potential buyers often look for ways to save money when shopping for a new home.

2. Bathroom Addition
If your home only has one bathroom, you can recoup a large chunk of your investment by adding another one. HGTV estimates that you can recoup 80%-130% of whatever you spend adding a bathroom.

3. Reinventing a Room
Adding more square footage to your home with a new room can be an incredibly expensive project. Although you can recoup some of your investment, anywhere from 50%-83%, this project???s costs can quickly spin wildly out of control. Just turn on any of those home remodeling TV shows; projects that start off with a $15,000 budget quickly turn into $30,000 or more when homeowners and contractors run into unexpected problems.

Reinvent the existing space in your home to save money. Finish a basement, or convert the attic to a bedroom. Many homeowners can also add small apartments in, or over, their garages ??? which they can then rent out as a room.

4. Adding Energy-Efficient Windows
These days, buyers shop for homes with energy efficiency in mind. Old, drafty single-pane windows are a major turn off. Energy Star claims that adding Energy Star-rated windows can save you up to $500 a year in heating and cooling costs by making your home more energy efficient.

According to HGTV, you can expect to recoup 60%-90% of your costs when you invest in energy-efficient windows. You can also receive a green energy tax credit of 10% for this upgrade, as long as you install Energy Star-rated windows. You might also qualify for additional credits from your state, or even your utility company.

5. Deck Addition
Adding a deck increases the value of your home. Outdoor living spaces have become more desirable, especially since more people stay home for vacation (i.e. referred to as a staycation). If you make your deck and your backyard more appealing, your house will be more appealing to prospective buyers when you decide to sell. HGTV claims that homeowners recoup 65%-90% of their investment by adding a deck.
